Throughout the weekend, activities around campus have focused on engaging with the Madison community to share the exciting STEM happenings at UW. The Medical Physics outreach group hosted a table on Sunday in the Health Sciences Learning Center as part of this larger event. In addition to our ultrasound, Geiger counter, and X-ray images demonstrations, we introduced a new radiotherapy treatment planning activity. After visitors to our table diagnosed our gelatin gummy bear with a brain tumor (grape), they were encouraged to learn how to develop a plan to treat the bear! They could then take these new skills and apply them to other disease sites. Although it was a rainy Sunday afternoon, we had a great turnout–interacting with over 150 community members! Thank you to Robert Moskwa, Ian Marsh, and community member Scott Zimmerman for their help with this event!
